If you receive an invitation stating that the event will be “black tie optional” it means exactly that. The event is usually an ‘after’ party proceeding, like a formal wedding or awards ceremony. You may or may not wear a black tie. Opt for chinos or trousers with a formal shirt.

1. Weddings
Formalwear for an outdoor summer wedding these days is a pleasing option with a contemporary twist. For daytime events, a simple cotton shirt with straight trousers is widely accepted. For an evening event, dress up in a light coloured shirt with contrast trousers and a jacket.

2. Cocktail parties
Opt for dark jeans paired with a light coloured semi-formal shirt.

[C] Workplace
1. Office wear
A regular day at office can be rocked by dressing in A-line trousers paired with a crisp, stand collar shirt of contrast colour.

2. Office parties
Yes, it is a party, but it is still an office party. You are expected to dress up appropriately for such an event. You can put on beige or black coloured chinos and a crisp white or blue formal shirt.

Formal dressing for men isn’t just limited to black and white tie, you can always wear a formal attire in a neutral tone to a formal event. Again, stick to neutral colours and classic cotton apparels as these will be the most reliable pieces in your wardrobe arsenal. Stick to lighter tones and loosen up the shirt; don’t be too restrictive in the way you wear it, loosen it up and you’ll nail it every time.
